New Book Honors Canyon Giant

Mike Buchheit, December 1, 2007

Bruce AikenSince the early 70s, artist Bruce Aiken and his family were the consummate "insiders" at the Grand Canyon—literally. Bruce's duties for the National Park Service necessitated having a home at the bottom of the canyon; one that he, wife Mary, and their three children inhabited off-and-on for over three decades.

During his free time Bruce amassed a monumental body of artwork, from simple sketches to elaborate, wall-sized paintings. His work has long been in high demand by collectors worldwide. Bruce retired in 2006, closing a single chapter in his life that would fill a book. In fact it did. Bruce Aiken's Grand Canyon: An Intimate Affair (Grand Canyon Association, 2007) is flying off the shelves after its release just a month ago. A tribute to his Grand Canyon experience, and his formidable craft, this richly-illustrated book is not to be missed by anyone with a passion for the grandest of chasms.
