Geodesic Dome Tents

Mountain Hardwear EV 2Here are just a couple of the choices to be found in dome tents. Notice that they are all free-standing, but the number of poles can vary from two to four; four being the strongest but also the heaviest.

Most heavy duty mountaineering tents have at least four poles. This helps shed show and prevents having the tent collapse on you! It also withstands the strongest wind as the dome shape guides the wind around the tent instead of slamming into the side with its full force.

The MSR Fury is shown here with and without the rainfly. The Mountain Hardwear EV 2 is a single-wall tent with the idea that it allows condensation and moisture to escape while keeping the rain and snow out. Not having a rainfly means the tent is lighter in weight.
