Modified or Semi-Geodesic Dome Tents

North Face Spectrum TentNote the height differences of the head of the tent to the foot. Since your feet don't require a lot of "headroom", weight is minimized by making the foot area smaller while keeping the head of the tent roomy. This way, you are still able to sit up in your tent with plenty of headroom, allowing more comfort and less "cabin fever." This design is free-standing.

Once again, even though these designs are free-standing, I highly recommend that you stake them before leaving them to the mercy of the wind. It's quite entertaining to watch these bouncing out of sight--unless it is yours! North Face TadpoleREI Sub-Alpine
